Safety rules that can't be talked around

Chalk's safety checks and website limits are fixed rules in the software. The AI can't change them, and nobody can argue it out of them.Chalk's safety rules are fixed. Nobody can talk it out of them.

When something worrying comes up

The lesson pauses, and the flag is saved for you

  1. Step 1

    Every message is checked

Fixed rules check everything your child types or says, before the AI sees it.

  2. Step 2

    The lesson pauses

Your child is shown where to get help, such as Childline, and 999 in an emergency.

  3. Step 3

    The lesson is flagged

The flag is saved with the lesson. It records which safety rule matched, and it isn't a judgement made by AI.

  4. Step 4

The right adult can read it

For families, the flag shows in your lesson history. For schools, it goes to the staff you name.

What your child sees. There's no button back into the lesson.

What Chalk can't do

We'd rather you know the limits up front. Chalk's job is to bring in a trusted adult quickly. The helping is still yours.Chalk tells an adult. The adult helps.

  • It isn't a monitoring service
  • It can't see anything outside the lesson
  • It doesn't contact anyone for you
  • It won't catch every sign that a child needs help
Websites Chalk uses

A short list, and nowhere else

Chalk teaches from a short list of checked education websites, and the software stops it wandering off it. When there isn't a checked source, it writes the lesson itself and checks it against your child's syllabus, and it always tells you which.Chalk uses checked websites. If there isn't one, it writes the lesson and tells you.

Today's list

Fetching the list…

  • Each lesson shows which websites Chalk read
  • You can see the full list in Settings
  • Social media, shops and sign-ups are always blocked

Schools choose which of these their pupils can use. See Chalk for schools

Questions,

Pick who you are to see the questions people like you ask most.

  1. No. What your child says is turned into text, and the recording is deleted straight away.

  2. The lesson pauses and your child is shown where to get help, such as Childline. The lesson is flagged in your lesson history, so you can read what was said and talk to your child. For schools, the flag goes to the staff the school has named.

  3. No. Chalk doesn't call or message anyone for you, and nobody at Chalk watches lessons live. If you think a child is in danger, call 999.

  4. Yes. The rules are fixed so they can't be argued with, but no set of rules catches everything. Chalk's job is to bring in a trusted adult. It isn't a monitoring service.

  5. We keep lessons so you can look back at them, and for nothing else. We never sell them or use them to train AI. You can export or delete everything from Settings.
